Karla Paz Sans is a seasoned Architectural Engineer (B.Eng., M.Arch.) and Project Manager with over 20 years of international experience across Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. Her expertise bridges sustainable architecture, resilient construction, and humanitarian engineering, holding advanced degrees in Sustainable Architecture and International Cooperation for Development. Karla’s career highlights include managing the acclaimed “Healthy House” featured on the BBC’s Grand Designs and in RIBA Journal, and leading shelter and reconstruction projects for UN agencies following volcanic eruptions and hurricanes in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

She collaborated with IRMA as a Research Associate in 2023, conducting qualitative research for a Global Affairs Canada-funded Gap Analysis of disaster response capacities across eight Caribbean states.

Karla works professionally in English, Spanish, and Galician, with working proficiency in Portuguese.
