Technical assistance to address environmentally induced displacement in EC external cooperation

Project Description

Climate change has become an increasingly important driver of human mobility. Those displaced due to environmental or climate factors were not legally represented in the Refugee Convention, and no internationally agreed terminology captured their status.

This project mapped how the European Union and partners addressed environment-displacement linkages to establish a more insightful organizational position as the EU moved to chair the Platform for Disaster and Displacement (PDD).

IRMA technically assisted in mapping global actions and policies, advising the EU on specific related technical requests, and developing/delivering online training and briefing materials for the INTPA Academy.

The Contracting Authority was the European Union (EU), represented by the European Commission (EC). The stakeholders involved in this contract included the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Platform for Disaster and Displacement (PDD).
